Standard 7 Lautsprecher Soundsystem Plug&Play Upgrade

  • Hello, and apologies for writing in English, but my German is unfortunately almost non-existent.

My question is the following: Is it possible to replace the factory speakers in a Ford Explorer EV equipped with the B&O sound system with either the Focal PS 165 SF 6.5-inch ("SlateFiber") speakers or the Helix Ci5 system, while keeping the original B&O amplifier?

Or would it be better to install something such as the Focal ISU 165 or IS VW 165, which are designed as relatively easy OEM upgrades for factory Volkswagen systems?

I already own a Musway M6V3-EVO DSP amplifier, but the problem is that my local Ford dealer is warning me that installing an additional amplifier may affect the vehicle warranty.

In my previous Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Musway was added without removing the factory amplifier. The original amplifier remained in place and supplied the signal to the Musway.

So, in practical terms: does the factory B&O amplifier have enough power to drive higher-quality aftermarket speakers such as the Focal PS 165 SF or Helix Ci5 properly, or would an OEM-style Plug & Play speaker such as the Focal ISU 165 / IS VW 165 be a better match?

Thank you very much in advance for any advice or experience you can share.

P.S. How much clearance is available behind the inner door panel? Would speakers with a mounting depth of 70 mm, such as the Focal Slatefiber, fit?

  • Hi Arti,

what is your Problem with the B&O Sound?

Do you miss the the bass or miss you the clear Sound?

my opinion ist, the Sound is very good.

Only the less Bass is the problem. And the bass is easy to bring in into the car.

  • Hi, Charlie! thanks for the reply. Yes, I want the sound to be more open and more clear as like I usually prefer. In my opinion even the low bass is at it's normal levels, but not the mid bass - it's a little bit blurred (in terms of "attack" and "readability")). (oh no not again these my sound descriptions:)) Not bad, actually, especially when Surround is turned on (as I found it's first or second levels are ok).

I would like to try another speakers, but I have not enough information - will the B&O amp suits another speakers and which ones.

  • How did you manage to enhance the bass with the B&O system ?

  • I guess, the Speaker change is not helpful. The problem ist inside the poweramp or better the "Wonderfull Surround sound, managed by DSP".

My Solution: I don't like Surround Sound in my car. So i change the "Surroune Slider" in the Position "Stereo". Now i don't hava jumble of instruments. The Voice is coming from the Front. Also the Sound. The Backdoor Speaker are litte more quite, an a perfet "Rearfiller".

The Bass ist also better, in this Stereo-Mode.

But, no enough for me. Surprise. I have from the car before, an EXS DSP Amp and 2 GroundZero 165 cm Subwoofer . The Capri have an perfekt Space in the Trunk. In this Hole Now i use this DSP AMP for an additional Subwoofer, located in the trunk. In this Hole, i manufacture a Plat with this two Subwoofer. In the Explorer you can take a After market Subwoofer.

My old DSP-AMP has an Line-In. And this Line-In Signal ist stolen by the B&O Sub. 😉 The 12V Power is coming from the 12V Power Plug-in in the Trunk. This Plug-in is 1) fused by 20A. This ist enough for rd. 240 Watt. But the Power for sub is not ever 240 Watt, it's frequently Peak. And the AMP ist going on with the Power on from Ingnition.

I have messured my System. I adjust the Volume and the right Frequenz (what i like). Now it's a Perfekt match. The AMP is comming with the Remote-Unit, to adjust the Volume an 4 Pre-Sets to find the right Sound. But the best part is, i can change the Bass form the Headunit. Then this is change the Signal from the B&O Sub, and therefore from my additional Sub. Of course, is it not to for Volume Orgies, but for Beautiful Sound what i like. 😁😎

Puh! So far from my site. I hope you understand my Trouble-Englich.🤪

P.S. I like Really Surround-Sound only in my Homecinema 😅
